EUROCONTROL experts complete working visit to Georgia to assess airspace and airport capacity

Organised by the Civil Aviation Agency under the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, experts from the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL) have completed another working visit to Georgia.

According to the Civil Aviation Agency, EUROCONTROL experts presented the findings of an interim report on Georgia’s airspace and international airport capacity during a working session at the agency.

Discussions addressed the optimisation of existing air traffic flows, airport infrastructure, established operational procedures, and inter-agency coordination.

As part of the visit, representatives from EUROCONTROL and the Civil Aviation Agency inspected relevant infrastructure at Kutaisi and Batumi International Airports. Workload monitoring for air traffic controllers and flight operators was conducted at control towers and aerodrome operational units.

In preparation for the final report, experts reviewed the measures implemented to manage air traffic flow and capacity, and gathered the additional data required to evaluate airspace and terminal throughput.

According to the Civil Aviation Agency, the meetings highlighted the impact of human factors on overall capacity. Specialists from airport operating companies and navigation service providers enhanced their expertise in conducting airport capacity studies and properly analysing current and future capabilities.

Under the Common Aviation Area Agreement with the European Union, the Civil Aviation Agency adopted air traffic flow management rules in 2025, drafted in alignment with the requirements of the relevant European Regulation ((EU) No 255/2010). As part of implementing this regulation, the agency has organised numerous initiatives to ensure the effective adoption of these new standards.
