The patrol police raised the flag of the European Union back at the Georgian Parliament building after far-right Alt-Info and Conservative Movement activists took the symbol down and burned it in an incident on Tuesday.
Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs initiated administrative proceedings in accordance with the Code of Administrative Offenses, which implies desecration of official symbols. MIA stated in its statement that law enforcement officers would identify and fine violators.
Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili echoed the incident saying that “the European Union flag would be returned in front of the Parliament building with due honour”.
