EU Ambassador: Ukraine undergoing brutal, unprovoked aggression; Georgia target of Russia's aggression since 2008

“Ukraine is undergoing brutal, unprovoked, unjustified aggression, and it’s defending itself. And Georgia has been the target of Russia’s aggression since 2008, 20% of Georgia is still occupied by Russia,” said Pawel Herczynski, EU Ambassador to Georgia.

According to the Ambassador, today’s meeting focused on Russia’s hybrid activities and “imperialist approach towards everyone in its neighbourhood.”

“I’m very grateful to the Embassy of Poland – Poland currently holds the rotating presidency of the European Union, as well as to the Embassy of Ukraine for organising this important event, focusing on Russia’s hybrid activities, targeting actually everyone. We are targeted, EU member states, Ukraine, of course, is undergoing brutal, unprovoked, unjustified aggression, and it’s defending itself. And Georgia, of course, has been the target of Russia’s aggression since 2008. As we know, 20% of Georgia is still occupied by Russia. So this is a meeting of experts, and I will be very glad also to add my contribution to this meeting concerning Russia’s imperialist approach towards everyone in its neighbourhood.

What we have learned is that we cannot trust Russia, that Russia is pursuing an imperialist agenda, targeting the neighbourhood, that malicious actions of Russia, of course, first and foremost, brutal, unprovoked, unjustified aggression against Ukraine, but also other hybrid activities against everyone in the neighbourhood, need a proper answer. This is why we need to work together in order to be resilient and to push back in order to preserve the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of all our countries,” he said.
