EU Ambassador: Keywords today to be de-escalation and negotiations

“The keywords today are de-escalation and return to negotiations to defuse tension”, EU Ambassador to Georgia Carl Hartzell said ahead of the meeting with the opposition leaders.

“You have heard my comments today, and they are still valid. The keywords today are de-escalation and return to negotiations to defuse the current tensions, which is concerning. We have heard many statements from our friends and partners from Europe and other places in the last 24 hours. I, as a mediator, host the guests this evening to continue discussions with different sides.
I’ve held a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia. I will not talk about the details”, EU Ambassador said.

The opposition leaders are meeting with the diplomatic corps at the Residence of the EU Ambassador. Kelly Degnan, US Ambassador to Georgia, is attending the meeting.
