EU Ambassador describes European integration as a "monumental task"

“European integration is a huge task. It is a monumental task. Everyone should be involved and everyone should play its role,” said Pawel Herczynski, EU Ambassador to Georgia.

According to the Ambassador, the government should be inclusive, while the opposition – constructive since unity is essential in this process.

“European integration is a huge task. It’s a monumental task. Everyone should be involved, and everyone should play its role. Unity is absolutely essential. If I look at the coat of arms of Georgia, I think it’s written strengths in unity. This is precisely what is required when it comes to European integration.

If you look at the example of my own country, if you look at the example of other countries that have joined the European Union in the past, this has been always a collective effort of everyone. Clearly, the government should be inclusive, should reach out to the opposition, should listen to the civil society, but, at the same time, opposition parties should work in a constructive manner, trying to contribute to this joint effort. As I have said, I will repeat it. When united, Georgians can do really great things.

European integration is a task which is a national priority. I know that this is a goal of the current government. I know that all opposition parties represented in parliament are supporting this goal. I sincerely hope that everyone will work together in order to achieve this goal as quickly as possible,” he said.
