Environmental Agency confirms Black Sea water quality meets standards along entire Georgian coast
“According to laboratory studies conducted thus far by the Agency, the quality of the Black Sea water along the entire Georgian coast remains within acceptable limits,” states a release from the National Environmental Agency (NEA).
The NEA emphasises that it maintains continuous monitoring of the Black Sea’s water quality.
“Research is carried out monthly at 12 designated points, assessing parameters such as 13 heavy metals, total petroleum hydrocarbons, 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and other physicochemical indicators.
Samples collected from the Black Sea are sent to the Agency’s accredited laboratory for analysis of air, water, and soil. The laboratory is equipped with high-precision instruments and fully complies with modern standards. Based on the laboratory results obtained so far, the water quality along Georgia’s entire coastline remains within the norm.
It is also noteworthy that the Agency, in accordance with the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD), continues to actively enhance its monitoring systems. The findings from these laboratory studies are published regularly on the Agency’s website,” the statement concludes.
