Eka Sepashvili: Washington visit highlighted readiness for new Georgia–US strategic agreement
Eka Sepashvili, a member of People’s Power, said the parliamentary delegation’s visit to Washington, D.C. is coming to an end and included a number of positive meetings, during which readiness to sign a new strategic agreement between Georgia and the United States was expressed.
According to Sepashvili, the new agreement will focus on concrete results and specific areas of cooperation.
“It is noteworthy that all these meetings were held in an extremely friendly and warm environment. The people we met — including senators, congressmen, and various representatives — were well informed about Georgia, understood the arguments we presented, and were familiar with the political and security challenges the country faces. This is a positive development, as it shows they are aware of the situation in Georgia and are making decisions about future Georgian-American relations accordingly,” Sepashvili said.
She noted that discussions also addressed the fact that 20 percent of Georgia’s territory is occupied by Russia, which creates additional security challenges.
Sepashvili added that both sides emphasized the shared values that unite Georgia and the United States, describing them as an important foundation for developing political, economic, educational, and cultural relations.
“The meetings also highlighted Georgia’s economic potential and its geostrategic location, which allows the country to play an important role in the implementation of strategic projects in which the United States has a clear interest. This will undoubtedly contribute to the further development of relations between our states based on cooperation and mutual respect,” Sepashvili said.
