Economy Minister: Talks with Uzbek delegation focused on deepening trade ties and boosting transport and logistics capabilities
Mariam Kvrivishvili, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, has announced that a series of key bilateral meetings were held with ministerial members of the Uzbek delegation during the President of Uzbekistan’s official visit to Georgia.
Both parties discussed avenues for further deepening trade and economic relations between the two nations.
“During these meetings, we engaged in active discussions on how to expand trade and economic cooperation between our countries, with a particular focus on further boosting our transport and logistics capabilities. Emphasised heavily throughout our talks, including by the Uzbek side, was the vital significance of the ongoing construction of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port. This project is paramount not only for Georgia but also for Uzbekistan, as it holds immense value within the wider framework of the Middle Corridor,” Mariam Kvrivishvili stated.
According to the Economy Minister, the meetings with the Uzbek delegation also highlighted the importance of the Georgian government’s plan to modernise its railway network, a project aimed at improving and increasing freight throughput capacity.
“We also spoke extensively about driving bilateral trade volumes even further, which will provide an additional stimulus for exporting Georgian-made goods and generally advancing market diversification. I would highlight that as part of this visit, we will also have the opportunity to take members of the Uzbek delegation on a site visit to view the ongoing construction at the Anaklia Deep Sea Port firsthand, alongside the Poti Free Industrial Zone and other port infrastructure,” the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development noted.
The Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia has reported that Mariam Kvrivishvili assessed that these joint efforts are crucial for both sides to clearly outline future opportunities and establish a concrete action plan to accelerate trade and economic synergy between Georgia and Uzbekistan.
