Economy Minister: Investor confidence in the energy sector’s transparency, reliability, and growth prospects has been restored
“Surging private capital commitments over the past year demonstrate renewed confidence in the energy sector,” stated Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili during her address at an event commemorating Energy Workers’ Day.
As the Minister highlighted, commercial bank lending to the energy sector reached a record GEL 3.2 billion as of July 2026.
“This represents a 30 per cent surge compared to the corresponding period last year. These figures demonstrate a recovery in investor confidence regarding the sector’s transparency, credibility, fairness, and long-term outlook. However, expanding power generation alone is insufficient; a robust energy system requires an equally robust grid,” Mariam Kvrivishvili noted.
Furthermore, the Minister stressed the imperative of forging an infrastructure capable of absorbing, transmitting, and securely managing higher power volumes. To this end, she explained, the government has launched major grid modernisation projects.
“Construction is currently underway on 14 transmission lines and four substations, encompassing over 587 kilometres of high-voltage transmission networks. This is a facet of the energy sector that may remain largely invisible to the wider public, yet it is precisely here that the speed and reliability of our nation’s energy development are determined,” Kvrivishvili concluded.
