EC President: Right to peaceful protest at the core of any democracy

“The right to peaceful protest is at the core of any democracy,” said Charles Michel, President of the European Council echoing the March 7 developments in Tbilisi.

“Strongly concerned about developments in Georgia. Right to peaceful protest is at the core of any democracy. Adoption of this “foreign influence” law is not compatible with the EU path which majority in Georgia wants. Commitment to rule of law and human values is key to EU project,” he tweeted.

The Georgian Parliament adopted the People’s Power-tabled draft bill on Transparency of Foreign Influence in its first reading, with 76 votes in favour and 13 against on March 7.
