The government-backed price comparison portal www.ekalata.gov.ge has integrated a new supermarket chain, “Ambari,” alongside launching dedicated tools for calculating savings and tracking monthly price trends, according to a statement from the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency.

The platform allows consumers to compare retail prices across competing supermarket chains within a single digital space, empowering shoppers to make informed decisions. The portal currently features 14 retail chains: Agrohub, Ambari, Carrefour, Daily, Goodwill, Gvirila, Kalata, Libre, Magniti, Nikora, Ori Nabiji, Spar, Universami, and Zgapari. Users can compare prices across 13 essential food staples and 10 basic non-food household items.

The newly introduced savings calculator allows consumers to estimate prospective savings based on real-time price comparisons. The August data show that total consumer savings recorded via the portal reached 2,265.50 GEL, with average savings per supermarket chain standing at 161.82 GEL. Monthly savings are calculated by aggregating total discounts available on listed individual items, with Carrefour emerging as the leading supermarket chain in overall savings for August.

“The objective of www.ekalata.gov.ge is to enhance price transparency for consumers, simplify comparisons across retail offers, and foster well-informed purchasing choices. Information on the portal is updated promptly based on data submitted directly by retail networks.

The Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency is actively driving the platform’s development, with several new features and services scheduled for launch. Development is currently underway on native mobile applications for iOS and Android devices, as well as a store-location mapping feature to help consumers easily pinpoint nearby participating retail outlets,” the agency statement reads.
