Documentary 100 Years of Broadcasting debuts at GPB First Channel's Illusion Cinema Hall

The premiere of the documentary film 100 Years of Broadcasting, directed by Irakli Gokadze, took place at the Illusion Cinema Hall of the GPB First Channel.

Tinatin Berdzenishvili, the Director General of the GPB First Channel, addressed the audience at the event.

The documentary chronicles the design, construction, and equipping of the new building of the Georgian Public Broadcaster, located at 31 Politkovskaya Street. It tells the story of how the largest media hub in the region was created. The complex, built on two hectares of land, consists of two interconnected buildings.

The film features individuals who played a direct role in establishing Georgia’s new television, sharing insights into the eco-friendly building that won an architectural award, its ultra-modern studios, and the largest and most multifunctional pavilions in Georgia.

“Today marks the birthday of television. We dedicated the entire year to celebrating its centennial anniversary, and today we premiered a film that audiences will soon see on air. I believe this film serves as a chronicle of a very challenging period that television, its team, and every employee experienced together. As a result, we now have a building we are genuinely proud of. We sincerely hope that this building, with its media infrastructure and content, will serve every viewer for the next hundred years,” said Tinatin Berdzenishvili.

Vasil Maghlaperidze, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Public Broadcaster, also expressed gratitude to the film’s creators.

“I would like to thank the film crew for creating such an engaging documentary. It serves as a reminder of all the challenges and adventures we faced—difficult at times, but ultimately leading to a successful outcome. This is not a film for everyday viewing, but it holds historical significance. I believe that this television and this building will serve the country for many generations to come,” Maghlaperidze said.

The TV premiere of the documentary will take place today at 8:00 PM.
