A Digital University in penitentiary facilities is in the Top 3 European innovative projects, the Georgian Ministry of Justice reported.

EuroPris, the organization promoting professional prison practice, named a Digital University among the top three of 37 projects from European countries at the annual awards.

The Justice Ministry viewed the fact as a recognition of reforms going on in the Georgian penitentiary system.

“A Digital University has functioned in the Georgian penitentiary facilities since 2022. The project ensures accessibility to education for inmates and allows them to engage in the university learning process online, attend tutorials and communicate with lecturers.

The penitentiary field, where, according to international institutions, human rights violations were a systemic problem until 2012, today is exemplary throughout Europe,” the Ministry said.
