Deputy Minister of Economy: Record volume of shipments in June due to effective management of Georgian Railway new leadership
“The record volume of shipments observed in June is due to effective management and projects being implemented by the new leadership at Georgian Railway,” said Tamar Ioseliani, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development.
According to the official data, in June 2026, Georgian Railway shipped 1,361,484 tons of cargo, a record figure for the last decade.
“The results demonstrated by the Georgian Railway for the last year are truly impressive. We have improvements in many directions, both in the operational part and relative data. Successful projects which were implemented in the operational part during the previous and current years are worth mentioning. I would highlight the pass modernization project, which was completed in December 2025, and part of the pass became fully operational. The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line’s entering into operation is also significant. It truly strengthens the railway’s role in the development of the Middle Corridor,” she said.
Deputy Minister emphasized the increasing dynamics of cargo flows in the Middle Corridor.
“The Georgian government pursues a consistent plan and vision on how to develop transport and logistics sectors in the country, and all multimodal routes are aligned with one another. Recently, we announced the decision on the development of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port. We also presented a 10-year plan for the historic renovation of the Georgian Railway. Both components allow us to declare that we are a reliable partner in the Middle Corridor and are prepared to effectively handle doubled cargo volumes,” she stated.
