Deputy Interior Minister participates in UN Human Rights Council discussion
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksandre Darakhvelidze participated in the discussion of Georgia’s 2025 National Report on the Status of Human Rights in Geneva, as part of the 4th cycle of the UN Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR), the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.
During the session, Darakhvelidze presented the reforms implemented in the Ministry of Internal Affairs and highlighted the results achieved in combating crime. He emphasized recent legislative amendments and measures aimed at effectively addressing illegal migration, organized crime, and drug-related offenses.
The Deputy Minister also addressed the prevention of violence against women and domestic violence, as well as the protection of minors’ rights. In addition, he briefed Council members on police measures taken to maintain law and order during recent protests in Georgia.
The Universal Periodic Review is a UN Human Rights Council mechanism in which member states submit a report on the protection of human rights every five years. The Georgian delegation this year includes representatives from the executive, legislative, and judicial branches.
