Deputy FM: Speeding up Georgia's NATO membership to be most effective response to threats and challenges in the region
Georgia is concerned about the Russian military buildup in the South Caucasus and the Black Sea region. Russia wants to extort the recognition of the illegally created so-called new reality from the west, said Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Lasha Darsalia.
Deputy FM delivered a speech at the Atlantic Council discussion Enhancing Security in the Black Sea: The future of security cooperation.
According to Darsalia, Georgia remains the only country in the region, which persistently resists Russian pressure and keeps on the NATO path. Georgia remains a reliable and capable ally to the US and the West.
“Speeding up Georgia’s NATO membership process would be the most effective response to threats and challenges in the region,” Darsalia claimed.
Georgian Deputy FM said Georgia achieved significant progress NATO integration process, but this was not enough.
Making a bold and strategic decision for the activation of the political dimension of Georgia’s NATO membership could contribute to the peace, development, stability and security in the region.
