Deputy Economy Minister: Overhauling railway and building Anaklia port will cement Georgia as an indispensable Middle Corridor partner

“Today marks the closing day of the Georgia International Maritime Forum; we have had two remarkably successful days,” stated Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Tamar Ioseliani.

According to Ioseliani, representatives from the international maritime and transport industries gathered in Batumi under the forum’s auspices to deliberate key developments across global maritime trade networks.

“Georgia’s role within the context of the Middle Corridor is paramount. We held compelling discussions about Georgia’s significance today from a connectivity standpoint and, by extension, its importance to the Middle Corridor itself.

The forum highlighted that Georgia, backed by a sound, coherent vision and strategy to modernise its transport infrastructure, stands as an indispensable partner along this route. We have formulated a 10-year development plan for Georgia’s transport system; the state’s vision entails investing approximately USD 7 billion through 2032 to revitalise existing infrastructure and effectively double transit capacity,” noted Tamar Ioseliani.

She further elaborated that major operational strides are already underway across the country.

“We have launched a historic overhaul of Georgian railways and are forging ahead with the construction of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port. This is precisely the strategic vision that will enable us to serve as an indispensable, reliable, and highly efficient partner along the Middle Corridor,” declared Ioseliani.
