Deputy Economy Minister: Georgia should develop as digital hub within regional corridor
Representatives of the public, private and technical sectors discussed international digital connectivity and the prospects for developing a digital hub at the Internet Governance Forum (GeoIGF). The forum also addressed artificial intelligence, Georgia’s innovative modernization, broadband expansion, and internet accessibility.
According to Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Tamar Ioseliani, the development of the digital economy and telecommunications infrastructure is among the Georgian government’s priorities.
“The reforms and programs implemented in the field of information and communication technologies in recent years have played a decisive role in strengthening our country’s digital sphere, enabling Georgia to keep pace with global trends. Our strategy is aligned with relevant EU documents,” the Deputy Minister said.
Ioseliani noted that GeoIGF brings together diverse perspectives and experiences, creating a platform to discuss key issues such as digital infrastructure and internet access, digital inclusion, cybersecurity, data protection, and artificial intelligence.
“It is important for us that Georgia develops as a digital hub and fulfills its role within the digital corridor,” she added.
The forum has been held annually in different countries under UN auspices for 20 years. In Georgia, it was organized by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, the Communications Commission, and the Association of Telecommunications Operators.
