Deputy Economy Minister addressed International Energy Conference in Bucharest

Located at the crossroads of key regional corridors, Georgia has long played a pivotal role in facilitating the safe transit of energy resources, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Inga Pkhaladze said during her speech at the Energy Week Black Sea 2026 international energy conference in Bucharest, Romania.

Pkhaladze emphasized that, amid profound transformations in global and European energy systems, Georgia is increasingly focusing on clean energy development, electricity interconnections, and deeper integration with regional and European markets.

During the panel discussion, she highlighted Georgia’s strategic role in ensuring regional energy security and advancing renewable energy. She noted the country’s ongoing projects to harness hydropower, solar, and wind resources, emphasizing that increasing the share of renewables in Georgia’s energy mix is a priority.

Pkhaladze also detailed the Black Sea Submarine Cable and Green Energy Corridor projects, stressing their importance not only for Georgia but also for Europe’s energy security. She confirmed Georgia’s readiness to cooperate with regional countries, the European Union, and international partners. In December 2025, the Black Sea Submarine Cable project received EU Project of Mutual Interest (PMI) status.

During her visit, Pkhaladze met with Romanian State Minister of Energy Pavel-Casian Nitulescu to discuss the progress and future prospects of these projects. She also attended the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Georgian State Electrosystem (GSE) and Romania’s Transelectrica S.A. to support the Black Sea Submarine Cable project.
