Defence Minister: April 9 testifies nation's sacrifice and strength, honouring our heroes

“I pay tribute to the memory of our heroes who lost their lives during the peaceful protest on April 9,” wrote Georgian Defence Minister and Vice Prime Minister Irakli Chikovani on social media.

Chikovani emphasizes that April 9 is a powerful symbol of the sacrifice and resilience of the Georgian nation.

“April 9, 1989, stands as one of the most significant dates in Georgia’s recent history, exemplifying our nation’s sacrifice and strength. It marks the day when the unity of Georgians and our collective desire for freedom were boldly declared.

Two years later, on April 9, 1991, we celebrated the restoration of Georgia’s independence. On this momentous day, our people spoke with one voice in a referendum, reflecting the legacy of our ancestors and the dedication of our fallen heroes,” writes Irakli Chikovani.
