David Gareji Monasteries have been enlisted in the final list of endangered monuments of Europa Nostra. As it was noted at the press conference today, the program aims to identifying possible sources of funding and mobilising wide support to save these heritage landmarks.
Europa Nostra, the leading heritage organisation in Europe, and the European Investment Bank Institute have announced the most threatened heritage sites in Europe for 2018: the Post-Byzantine Churches in Voskopoja and Vithkuqi in Albania, the Historic Centre of Vienna in Austria, the Buzludzha Monument in Bulgaria, the David Gareji Monasteries and Hermitage in Georgia, the Constanta Casino in Romania, the Prinkipo Greek Orphanage on Princes’ Islands in Turkey, and the Grimsby Ice Factory in the United Kingdom.
“By enlisting David Gareji in the final list, the international community has recognized the distinctive historical and cultural significance of David Gareji complex”, – was noted at the press conference.
Maka Dvalishvili, the head of the International Center of Art and Levan Kharatishvili, Deputy Minister of Culture and Sport held a press conference today.
