Culture Ministry to launch reconstruction of Shalva Amiranashvili Art Museum
Georgia’s Culture Minister Tinatin Rukhadze visited the Shalva Amiranashvili Art Museum and met with the administration to review technical details for the building’s reconstruction.
The building, constructed in 1838, is listed in the First Category of national cultural heritage and requires full reconstruction. However, it must be restored in accordance with all standards to ensure the preservation of the most valuable treasures housed in the museum.
The Infrastructure Ministry will implement the reconstruction works.
“Given the current danger, the treasure has been removed from the building, and we will also ensure the safe storage of the remaining items. We will collaborate with the Ministry of Infrastructure, and within a few years, we will achieve a result that we can all be proud of,” said Minister Rukhadze.
The museum’s collections and artefacts are displayed in the second block of the building, constructed in the 1980s. The archive, administrative offices, and conservation workshops are situated in the premises of the third block. The reconstruction works will enable the preservation of collections, their documentation and study, and will support leading scientific and educational activities in accordance with modern standards.
