Criminal proceedings launched against 2,861 individuals in July, reports GeoStat
Criminal prosecution was initiated against 2,861 individuals in July 2026, according to official figures released by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (GeoStat). Of those prosecuted, 187 individuals committed an offence while serving a probationary period, 6.5% of the total prosecution figure.
GeoStat reported that Tbilisi recorded the highest number of new prosecutions in July at 956 cases, followed by Adjara with 420 cases, and the occupied Abkhazia region with 23 cases.
The breakdown of prosecutions initiated under specific articles of the Criminal Code of Georgia reveals that drug-related offences accounted for the largest share in July 2026, with 697 cases of illegal acquisition or storage of narcotics and psychoactive substances, alongside 162 cases of small-scale manufacture, acquisition, or personal use. Theft accounted for 321 prosecutions, while making threats led to 278 cases. Crimes of interpersonal violence featured prominently, including 244 cases of assault and 204 cases of domestic violence. Fraud resulted in 134 prosecutions, while sexual offences comprised 13 cases of rape and three cases of indecent acts.
