The Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Infrastructure has initiated the process of preparing design documentation for the revitalisation of the Maltakva coastline in Poti.
According to an official statement from the Ministry of Infrastructure, the aim of the project is to transform the seafront and surrounding areas in the Maltakva settlement into a versatile recreational space that will appeal to both local residents and visitors throughout the year.
“The area designated for development spans 244.65 hectares and encompasses the Maltakva coast, the forest park, the adjoining zones of Lake Golden, Silver, and Tesea, as well as both banks of the Rioni Canal and Nikoladze Island.
The project envisions a comprehensive renovation of the coast, including the creation of children’s and sports zones, catering and entertainment facilities. The recreational landscape within Maltakva Forest Park will be developed with minimal infrastructural disruption, focusing on inventorying existing flora, restoring vegetation, and rehabilitating the ecosystem. Renovations along the lakeshores and around Nikoladze Island will also include the development of sports and entertainment spaces.
Furthermore, the plan includes the installation of decorative and drinking water fountains, open showers, leisure areas, sports and children’s playgrounds, an amphitheatre, pedestrian pathways, bicycle lanes, and designated animal-walking zones. The realisation of this project aims to boost Poti’s tourism potential and support local economic growth,” the Ministry of Infrastructure stated.
