Common Courts judges to concern over attempts to discredit judiciary

Judges of the Common Courts of Georgia are concerned over what they called “recent politically motivated, highly unhealthy processes aiming to discredit the judiciary.”

In a concerted statement published today, judges call for halting the anti-state campaign against the independence of the judiciary and allow it to act as per Constitution.

Judges claim the judiciary in Georgia has never been as independent as it is today.

“It is worrying that there have been politically motivated, highly unhealthy processes geared toward discrediting the judiciary recently.

We are ready to listen to any sound criticism or remarks that aim at further strengthening and healing the court system. However, no one has the right to violate the constitutional principle of judicial independence.

We call on everyone to stop the anti-state campaign against the independence of the judiciary to enable it to act under its Constitutional powers, and to engage in a healthy discussion to ensure the further strengthening of the fairness and efficiency of the judiciary,” the statement reads.
