Coast Guard officers take part in US Africa Command maritime exercise

The officers of the Coast Guard Department of the Border Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs participated in the international maritime exercise Phoenix Express, organized by the U.S. Africa Command (U.S. AFRICOM) and coordinated by the Office of Defense Cooperation (ODC) of the U.S. Embassy.

According to the Georgian Border Police, the international maritime exercise took place in Tunis, Tunisia, for four days. During the training, the officers of the Coast Guard Department of the Border Police of Georgia performed their assigned tasks at the Training Management Center.

“Phoenix Express – an international maritime exercise aimed to enhance interoperability between the maritime and law enforcement forces of the United States, African partners, allies, and international organizations. The exercise focused on mastering NATO procedures, terminology, and the maritime security management model. The exercise focused on maritime interdiction operations, effective information sharing, and coordinated patrols, which contribute to strengthening maritime security and deepening cooperation in the region.

Representatives of 12 countries and international organizations participated in the international maritime exercise,” the Border Police said in a statement.
