Citizens party leader: Parliament entry to be tradeoff, not betrayal
“We want the negotiations to continue since there are unresolved, crucial issues on the table. If we reach an agreement, it would be a big step forward towards the development of the country,” a leader of the opposition Citizens’ party, Aleko Elisashvili, commented on the 5th round of talks between the ruling party and the opposition.
Elisashvili said he does not yet know the exact date of the talks as it relies on several factors.
“Sooner the better,” he added, “ongoing crisis be that the coronavirus or poverty must end once and for all. The agreement means the Georgian Dream should compromise some issues. Entering the parliament will be a compromise on the opposition’s side. If we sign an agreement, we will not go home but take up our mandates. Do not be shy, do not whisper, say it out loud, accepting the parliamentary seats is not a betrayal, but the service for this country. Say it boldly, just as we do,” Elisashvili stated.
