“Azerbaijan and Georgia are neighbour countries. We are not only neighbours, but we are also friendly countries and the friendship between our peoples has a centuries-long history. And throughout these centuries, we always supported each other,” said Sahiba Safarova, Chairwoman of the Azerbaijani National Assembly or Milli Mejlis during the meeting with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.

According to Sahiba Safarova, Azerbaijan and Georgia are strategic partners and allies. Many Georgians live in Azerbaijan, and many Azerbaijanis live in Georgia.

“We have many similarities in our traditions and maybe that’s why many Georgians live in Azerbaijan, they are an integral part of our society, and many Azerbaijanis, who now live in Georgia, are an integral part of your country. I have to underline the important role of the ambassadors of both countries. Speaking about nowadays history, we can say that Azerbaijan and Georgia are strategic partners and allies. More than 100 intergovernmental documents have been signed, and 15 more are under the consideration. These documents have created a legal framework for our relationship in different spheres. Economic cooperation is one of the most important directions. I would like to mention that in the pandemic year of 2020, the trade turnover between our countries amounted to over USD 500 million and these figures show the big volume of this cooperation.

Today, Azerbaijan is one of the largest investors in the Georgian economy and Georgians are active participants in the international projects implemented by our country. Azerbaijan and Georgia play an important role in European energy and transport security. The parliaments play a crucial role in the relations between countries and I am very proud to say that we have very successful communication. I would like to stress that our national delegations successfully cooperate within many international organizations, such as PACE, NATO, Euronest, OSCE and others,” Sahiba Safarova claimed.
