CEC warns against misinterpretation of information on election precincts abroad

Recently, there has been widespread information about the establishment of election precincts abroad, with calls and statements directed towards the election administration urging the opening of polling stations based on signatures collected by Georgian citizens living abroad, as stated by the Central Election Commission (CEC) on Tuesday.

The CEC emphasized that such information has taken on a campaign character, and its misinterpretation may harm the election environment and mislead voters.

The CEC clarified that the decision to establish election precincts in another country is made by the CEC during its session, relying on data provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The list of individuals registered abroad is compiled by the State Services Development Agency and submitted to the CEC no later than 18 days before the voting day.

Furthermore, the CEC highlighted that during the election period, voters are exempted from paying the consular fee for consular registration no later than the 19th day from the appointment of the election until the day of the election.

“We appeal to all parties involved to adhere to election procedures, avoid misleading voters based on political goals, and contribute to a responsible and transparent electoral process,” the CEC states.
