CEC schedules municipal council by-elections in Vani, Tsalka, Dmanisi, and Akhmeta for October 3
Local council by-elections will take place across Vani, Tsalka, Dmanisi, and Akhmeta municipalities on October 3, 2026. Members of the Central Election Commission (CEC) unanimously backed the draft decree during a formal meeting.
A total allocation of 1,117,000 GEL from the state budget will finance the upcoming elections.
In addition, the commission approved a draft resolution authorising the CEC to request the necessary funds from the Ministry of Finance.
Under the CEC’s decision, a public call for candidates for the precinct election commissions will be issued no later than August 18, with final selections scheduled on August 23 or 24.
According to Giorgi Kalandarishvili, Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), the necessity of holding local by-elections arose following the premature termination of mandates for four municipal council members: Beka Lachkepiani (Vani), Ramaz Khinikadze (Tsalka), Ilia Sarsevanidze (Dmanisi), and Adame Mozaidze (Akhmeta).
