District Election Commissions (DEC) were obliged to randomly recount ballots in five polling stations in each constituency for the first time, the Central Election Commission (CEC) announced on Wednesday.
The DEC recounted ballot papers of 360 polling stations in 72 constituencies. Data from 239 polling stations remained unchanged, accounting for 66.7% of the counted polling places, while data from 121 polling stations changed slightly. Individual candidates gained or lost votes slightly, but it did not affect the overall result.
The process was open as well as videotaped. The data are available on the CEC website.
Georgia’s 2021 local elections were held on October 2. The runoff is scheduled for October 30.
