CEC Chair meets Mission Director of USAID/Caucasus

The Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Georgia, Giorgi Kalandarishvili, and the Deputy Chairperson of the CEC, Giorgi Sharabidze, met with the Mission Director of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Caucasus, John A. Pennell, and the Counsellor of the USA Embassy in Georgia, Marc Nordberg.

The parties discussed the 2023 activities of the Election Administration (EA) and the matters for future cooperation.

“The focus of the meeting was the preparation for the 2024 Parliamentary Elections and the introduction of electronic technologies in elections. Giorgi Kalandarishvili also thoroughly spoke about the activities carried out in the area of modernizing elections, including the projects implemented in cooperation with USAID. He highlighted that the jointly organized projects and cooperation with the USAID as well as their support are of utmost importance.

Along with the ongoing work of the EA, pertinent issues to the 2024 Elections, such as the provision of information to voters, persistent challenges, and needs were covered during the meeting. In addition, the parties also covered the successful visit of the CEC Delegation in the USA, aiming at deepening cooperation with international partners, and its outcomes. At the end of the meeting, the parties also discussed the plans of their future cooperation and the crucial topics in regard to the successful administration of the 2024 Elections at high professional level,” reads the press statement.
