The Central Election Commission (CEC) has launched a new online platform, the Disinformation Registry.

According to the CEC, this initiative aims to foster public trust in the electoral process and to enhance information security across the board.

“Through the registry, the CEC provides interested parties with verified and accurate information regarding disinformation circulating about electoral processes and the election administration.

In today’s world, disinformation remains one of the most pressing and expanding challenges, undermining democratic principles and adversely affecting the electoral environment. This issue is not unique to Georgia; it is a concern shared by election authorities worldwide.

In response, the CEC is consistently pursuing and adopting innovative strategies and tools to inform the public effectively, deliver trustworthy information, and reduce the influence of fake news. The creation of the Disinformation Registry is a key step in this ongoing effort, aimed at strengthening transparency and increasing voters’ resilience to misinformation,” the statement reads.

The CEC explains that the new website, disinfo.cec.gov.ge, addresses the critical challenge posed by deliberate disinformation campaigns, which threaten to distort the electoral landscape.

“The register includes all disinformation whose dissemination aims to create misconceptions within society and harm the electoral process. Importantly, alongside disinformation, the platform also displays relevant, verified, and factually accurate information.

The platform showcases disinformation material identified through monitoring conducted by the CEC’s Information and Analytical Department, part of the Strategic Communications Department. The Disinformation Registry allows users to explore the content interactively, with options to filter by topics, years, or specific elections.

The decision to develop this web platform was made in line with international best practices, reflecting the CEC’s commitment to adopting modern standards and innovative solutions.

As the body responsible for election administration, the CEC will continue to respond swiftly to all disinformation that endangers the electoral process. Citizens are urged to verify information through official, trustworthy sources and to trust only reliable and accurate information,” the statement concludes.
