Bulgarian Ambassador: Georgia is important partner; we're connected in many ways, but we want more
“Georgia has been an important partner for Bulgaria for many years. We’re close in many ways. We’re connected in many ways, but we want more,” Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to Georgia, Vesselin Valkanov, stated.
“We want more ferry boats to roam the sea. We want more cables to connect the two countries. Georgia is a vital player as far as we are concerned. The Black Sea is important. The Middle Corridor is important for Bulgaria, so we are keen on developing things and linking Asia with Europe, and I don’t see how you can avoid Georgia in the process,” the Ambassador stated.
Ambassador Valkanov also remarked on the challenges.
“There are many challenges. The big challenges are linked to security instability. The war in Ukraine is one prime example of this. There are also small challenges, which I call stubborn because they do not go away. They’re linked to administrative issues, bureaucracy, and digitalisation. So, all these things can be done and need to be done. Otherwise, the corridor will lose some of its attractiveness,” Vesselin Valkanov added.
The Ambassador explained that this concerns the region in general.
“I travel regularly by car along this corridor, and I see there are positive changes, but there is a lot to be done,” the Bulgarian Ambassador concluded.
