Anna Luhrmann: Germany supports Georgia's getting candidate status

“We very much support that Georgia gets candidate status this week. Because it’s clear that the Georgian population is really overwhelmingly in favour of moving towards the EU,” said Anna Luhrmann, Minister of State for Europe and Climate at the Federal Foreign Office of Germany.

According to Anna Luhrmann, Georgia progressed on the EU integration path, it carried out reforms but had a lot of reforms and the parliamentary elections ahead.

“I have been to the country early, in October. I could see myself how enthusiastic people from all walks of life in Georgia are about the EU and the reforms that were made point in the right direction. But it’s clear that the country really still has a lot of reforms ahead. We, particularly, expect a free and fair electoral process next year,” she said.
