“Bacho Akhalaia has no connection whatsoever to the organisation of October 4 events. The 4 October case is absurd from beginning to end, because we saw no violence there whatsoever,” the wife of former Defence Minister Bacho Akhalaia, Ana Nadareishvili, has stated.
According to her, on October 4, the violence came only from the police.
“I want to see Bacho as his lawyer. They told me the charges against me have been dropped, and yesterday they released me from the detention centre. That’s why I’m trying. That’s what the investigator who took me away and detained me told me, but they haven’t shown me any documents.
The State Security Service briefing was a lie from beginning to end. They finished by saying that Bacho Akhalaia won’t give testimony to save his wife; such a lie. Yesterday, they staged something like a scene where they called an ambulance to the interrogation and made a false record. The people who burst into the house, people with automatic weapons, the entire investigative system, they were confused, they were calling someone, they were whispering to each other, they didn’t know what they were doing. They’ve been naming him as an organiser for a long time. There can be no evidence of this. They haven’t established what Bacho Akhalaia’s phone is, so what am I talking about?
He was summoned for questioning twice, and both times they rang me and told me he’d been summoned. On the first call, when he was summoned to the Criminal Police for a voice sample recording, I said to them, why don’t you call Bacho Akhalaia? We don’t have his number, we don’t know it, they said. How did they establish that Bacho Akhalaia was calling anyone at all? If they falsified the record, they could have cracked the IP and started making calls, couldn’t they? All the more so because they’ve been developing the narrative for a long time that the organiser is Bacho Akhalaia.
On October 4, these people were at our house; the entire State Security Service was downstairs. On October 4, they detained people, someone or other, and were asking them, ” Are you with Bacho Akhalaia, aren’t you? They held them for three days. How do I know they didn’t crack my IP and weren’t making calls themselves?
Neither of us has refused acquaintance, closeness, or kinship with Burchuladze and Zodelava. People ring each other normally. Bacho and I were ringing each other on October 4, too—why didn’t they establish that?
Bacho Akhalaia has no connection to the organisation of the October 4 events. The October 4 case is absurd from beginning to end, because we saw no violence there whatsoever. People had come out to protest. The violence came only from the police, and not just on October 4. I’m in a complete vacuum, my internet at home has been cut off, my child’s phone has been taken, there’s nothing,” Ana Nadareishvili stated.
According to Ana Nadareishvili, Bacho Akhalaia intended to travel to Poland around three weeks ago, but he was not allowed through at the border.
“At approximately four o’clock, if I’m not mistaken, the investigator rang me, whom I’d been summoned by before, and told me I’d been summoned in connection with concealing a weapon. I said we would go to the magistrate judge because, during the previous summons, they staged such a circus, such a spectacle that I simply no longer trusted them. ‘Fine, I’ll cancel it and get back to you,’ he replied. Not half an hour later, up to 30 masked individuals armed with automatic weapons stormed into the house. First, they took me, then Bacho; Gagua was also detained twice. This was psychological pressure on Bacho Akhalaia. I requested a lawyer, but they wouldn’t allow one in, so I couldn’t understand what I had been detained for. They didn’t ask any questions. From the outset, I was waiting for a lawyer so I could understand the situation before answering any questions.
There, they led me past Bacho. We called to each other — the only words we managed were “I love you.” We spent three years in emigration, like every other Georgian who has left the country due to poverty. Our house was once put up for auction. There’s no chance of finding a job here, so Bacho had to take the same step to earn money to feed our children. Bacho Akhalaia and Zviad Gagua were planning to go to Poland, where we had been working. However, they were turned back at the border about three weeks ago; they weren’t given any explanation,” Ana Nadareishvili stated.
The State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG) detained former Georgian Defence Minister Bacho Akhalaia in connection with the October 4 case. According to the Security Service, investigations have established that Akhalaia “was orchestrating the criminal activities and was the principal organiser.”
The SSSG also announced at a briefing that a decision has been made to release Ana Nadareishvili, the spouse of former Defence Minister Bacho Akhalaia, who was detained alongside him.
“This decision was made despite Bachana Akhalaia’s complete refusal to testify, including his refusal to answer whether he was in contact with other organisers of the crime or if his wife, Ana Nadareishvili, was also involved. This leaves open the possibility of his wife’s complicity in the crime,” the State Security added at a briefing.
The investigation will continue to examine whether she also participated in the criminal events of October 4, 2025.
