All eligible Georgians to do mandatory military service within MoD

All able-bodied males will undergo mandatory military service only within Defence Ministry (MOD), Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili announced at today’s Cabinet meeting, saying that “until now the system was not as efficient as it should be.”

“With six, eight, and eleven months of programme, an effective system will be produced. It will be intensive military instruction designed to develop a powerful reserve,” the PM declared.

The project, costing over 80 million GEL, will commence in January, but the program will go into effect starting January 1, 2025.

Garibashvili also said that students under the age of 23 will be permitted to undergo compulsory military service one month per year at military facilities.
