“Georgia is sliding into full autocracy under Georgian Dream, and the world must not stay silent,” reads the statement of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Party (ALDE Party) posted on the social media X platform.

ALDE has responded to the statement issued by the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, which announced that criminal proceedings have been initiated against Mikheil Saakashvili, Giorgi Vashadze, Nika Gvaramia, Nikanor Melia, Zurab Japaridze, Elene Khoshtaria, Mamuka Khazaradze, and Badri Japaridze.

ALDE says in a statement that opposition voices have been silenced in Georgia.

“Opposition voices silenced. Democratic leaders prosecuted for “crimes against the state.” Georgia is sliding into full autocracy under Georgian Dream, and the world must not stay silent. Democracy is under full-scale assault.

European liberals stand in unwavering solidarity with all those in Georgia fighting for freedom, democracy and human rights,” reads the statement by ALDE posted on social media.
