Ahali’s Gvaramia: Overthrow of oligarch is the goal, rational thinking unnecessary

“It is not necessary to think rationally. We must openly state that the goal is to overthrow the oligarch if we want people to be out of prison,” declared Nika Gvaramia, leader of the Ahali party.

Gvaramia emphasized that the regime relies on arrests and fear and that Bidzina Ivanishvili has no way to retreat.

“I have been imprisoned many times, but what happened today is beyond words. My friends, we shouldn’t ask questions or seek rational solutions. Nothing will change unless we remove the oligarchy. We all hoped for a different outcome, but that hope was misplaced. The regime sustains itself through repression and intimidation. We must be clear: the goal is to overthrow the oligarch. There should be no concern about how or what will happen next. The longer the oligarchy remains in power, the more radical and clear our actions need to be.”

Gvaramia also addressed recent international developments, stating, “If anyone thought Bidzina Ivanishvili would change his mind after Marco Rubio’s statement yesterday, they were mistaken. Ivanishvili has no way to back down. He’s cornered. His situation will worsen, prompting him to intensify his repressive stance. Is this dangerous for Georgia? Yes. Does this worsen the protest situation? On the contrary, it alleviates it. The more Bidzina Ivanishvili descends into madness, the weaker he becomes, and the more mistakes he is likely to make.

Zurab Japaridze, one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, has had his bail conditions replaced with imprisonment as a preventive measure today; detained in the courtroom.
