787 vehicle emissions violations recorded in July, Department of Environmental Supervision reports

Officers from the Department of Environmental Supervision under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture identified 787 instances of motor vehicle exhaust emissions exceeding permissible limits across four cities between July 1 and 31, 2026, according to a statement released by the department.

The department specified that 484 violations were recorded in Tbilisi, 126 in Kutaisi, 115 in Batumi, and 62 in Rustavi.

“Private individuals committed a total of 683 infractions, while department officers fined legal entities in 104 instances.

Notably, 469 violations involved passenger cars, 299 involved minibuses, and 19 were committed by drivers or owners of goods vehicles.

To improve ambient air quality and minimise pollution from the transport sector, departmental inspectors conduct daily roadside checks on moving vehicles in four major cities across the country. Since the inception of these enforcement measures, officer patrols have been expanded, hybrid service vehicles have been acquired, and teams have been equipped with specialised measuring instruments. Personnel undergo periodic retraining.

Department officers now have the capacity to inspect more vehicles across a wider range of locations. Consequently, enforcement has become both broader in scope and more effective; over the first seven months of this year alone, officers have identified 5,362 instances of vehicle emissions failing to meet established standards,” reads the statement released by the Department of Environmental Supervision.
