Turkish Economy Minister: Turkey remains Georgia’s largest trading partner, tourism investments encouraged
Turkey is Georgia’s largest trading partner, and the two countries have had a successful free trade agreement since 2008, with ongoing efforts to further deepen economic cooperation, said Turkey’s Minister of Economy, Omer Bolat, at the Georgia-Azerbaijan-Turkey Trilateral Business Forum.
Speaking at the forum, Bolat highlighted the importance of the trilateral platform for the Caspian region and the strong participation of the business sectors from Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Turkey.
“First of all, I would like to thank the Government of Georgia and Minister of Economy Mariam Kvrivishvili for the successful organization of this forum. Turkey is Georgia’s largest trading partner. We have had a successful free trade agreement in place since 2008, and we are working together to deepen economic cooperation in trade, transport, energy, tourism, services, aviation, and port operations,” Bolat said.
He noted that economic relations between Georgia and Turkey are extensive and growing, with active efforts from both governments and business communities to strengthen trade and investment ties.
“Last year, trade turnover exceeded $3.1 billion, and our short-term goal is $5 billion. Turkish direct investments in Georgia amount to $2.2 billion across energy, aviation, ports, and other sectors. Our investors are eager to contribute to Georgia’s economic development. We also encourage Georgian investments in Turkey, particularly in tourism. The number of Turkish tourists visiting Georgia is increasing each year. These three countries will continue to enhance close economic integration, and forums like this help accelerate that process,” Bolat added.
