Strategy Aghmashenebeli: If no compromise, we take to streets

Paata Manjgaladze, a member of Strategy Aghmashenebeli opposition party, said if the Georgian Dream terminates the opposition MP mandates, the issue of non-entry would be closed, and negotiations in this direction would no longer make sense. He added that opposition would continue fighting within the Constitution, but more uncompromisingly and with more diligence. If the government cancels the elections, seizes power and court, they would have only one way, the street.

“Naturally, we can do nothing but force the government to compromise through peaceful protests. Political prisoners are not a political issue. It is more of a moral and humane act. If the Georgian Dream removes the political charges against these people, it will be a good step for these people personally and the process in general,” Manjgaladze said.

According to him, the opposition is waiting for concrete actions from the Georgian Dream, but the opposition has no choice but to rally.

“If someone is going to overthrow the government, we will not participate in this process. The form of direct democracy in Georgia is freedom of expression, protest, demonstration, rally, and if the government does not compromise, we will have no other way out,” Manjgaladze said.

Most of the opposition parties that secured their seats at the Parliament of 10th Convocation believe the elections were a fraud. They renounced the mandates and demand snap elections. Georgian Parliament will vote on termination of opposition MPs’ authority on February 2.
