Ban on land transportation of wheat cargo postponed until October 1, 2019

The term for the enactment of the ban on land transportation for wheat cargo has been postponed until October 1, 2019 – Finance Minister Ivane Machavariani said after the meeting with Jano Amkoladze, one of the participants of the protest.

“We have taken into consideration the opinion of the drivers as well as so emotional decision of Jano Amkoladze and decided to postpone the restriction until October 1, 2019,” -the Finance Minister said.

A group of truck drivers has gathered to protest against the decision of the Ministry of Finance on banning the import of wheat by road. One of the protesters Jano Amkoladze went up to the roof of the building of Revenue Service’s customs clearance zone, in Lilo district. He inflicted self-injuries, poured gasoline and threatened to burn himself. He demanded the meeting with the Minister of Finance and the abolition of the ban.

After the Meeting held with Minister, he called on the drivers to suspend protest and return to the workplaces.
