Working version of Act of Georgia's Independence Restoration to be preserved in National Archives
The working version of the Act of Restoration of State Independence of Georgia, adopted on April 9, 1991, by the Supreme Council (edited by President Zviad Gamsakhurdia and Academician Joni Khetsuriani), will henceforth be preserved in the National Archives of the Georgian Ministry of Justice.
According to the National Archives, the Executive Committee of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences made the decision during today’s meeting.
Joni Khetsuriani delivered the speech “Thirty-Five Years from the Day of Restoration of State Independence of Georgia.” The then Minister of Justice recalled the history of working on the text of the Act of Independence. He also expressed his desire to transfer the historical document depicting this process, preserved in his archive, to the National Archives of Georgia.
Alongside Executive Committee members of the Academy of Sciences, Deputy Justice Minister Merab Turava, representatives of the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth Affairs and invited guests participated in the meeting.
Director of the National Archives, Teona Iashvili, remarked that the most important document related to the history of Georgian statehood was a valuable acquisition for the National Archives.
The digital version of the document will be available for all interested stakeholders in the National Archives’ Research Hall or on the website.
