Wine Agency: More than 113,500 tons of grapes processed in Kakheti Region

As of now, 113,500 tons of grapes have been processed during the grape harvest in Georgia’s Kakheti region, of which up to 79,100 tons are high-grade and quality grapes, while only 0.7% of the total harvest is classified as low-quality or unripe, according to the National Wine Agency.

The agency said up to 14,000 tons of grapes were processed over the past 24 hours.

According to the agency, around 8,300 grape growers in Kakheti have delivered their harvest.

“To ensure the harvest is organized and the crop is fully marketed, the Georgian government has decided that, in the event of an excess harvest, all grape growers will have the opportunity to deliver their grapes,” the agency said.

For this purpose, the Harvest Management Company LLC is accepting grapes harvested in Kakheti from individuals under established conditions.

For Saperavi grapes, the price is GEL 1.50 per kilogram for grapes with a sugar content of at least 20%; GEL 1.00 for sugar content between 16% and 20%; and GEL 0.50 for sugar content below 16%.

For Rkatsiteli and other wine grapes, the price is GEL 1.30 per kilogram for grapes with a sugar content of at least 19%; GEL 0.90 for sugar content between 16% and 19%; and GEL 0.50 for sugar content below 16%.

The grape delivery process is coordinated by the Grape Harvest Coordination Headquarters, located in the city of Gurjaani.
