The World Health Organization (WHO) expressed its deep sorrow at the passing of the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II.
According to the condolence statement released by the WHO, the rich spiritual legacy and vision of Ilia II will continue to inspire professionals across sectors and society as a whole.
“Every opportunity to meet and engage with His Holiness was a great honor. We especially recall his support and guidance during the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the cooperation with the Georgian Orthodox Church on issues such as gambling regulation and promoting health literacy among children and young people.
Insights and initiatives of His Holiness, including his proposal to explore the positive impact of music on human health, served as an important guide for our work. Following this, the WHO Regional Office for Europe initiated systematic efforts in the field of arts and health, including in Georgia.
The rich spiritual legacy and vision of Ilia II will continue to inspire professionals across sectors and society as a whole,” reads the statement.
