Global warming is much closer than we thought. We deal with it every day and it gets into the tiniest details, Nino Chkhobadze, the Chair of the Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of the Earth, told GPB First Channel.
“Previously, one could harvest potatoes, store them, and sell them later, but this is no longer doable owing to rising humidity caused by climate change.
Tbilisians used to recall that the laundry outside might dry in a day, but now it takes 2-3 days. All of this is due to the extreme humidity,” she says.
There are many areas affected by climate change, such as ice melting, which is leading to rising water levels and flooding. Desertification and water scarcity could also be triggered by it.
As the whole world’s efforts seek to prevent the earth’s average temperature from rising by more than 2° C, Chkhobadze believes people must change their lifestyles, ditching their cars for shorter trips.
“Walk more. Change your lifestyle,” she calls on the citizens.
Chkhobadze stated that an alarming number of extreme heats spread across Europe in January 2023, mentioning Warsaw, Poland, which saw a record-high January temperature of almost 19°C (66.2°F), and Bilbao, Spain with a temperature of 25.1°C, the highest since 1916.
