Vice Speaker Volski: Renting house from political leader without contract could constitute political corruption
“We don’t know what German law stipulates, but all rules are violated when an ambassador doesn’t formalise a contract with the landlord, especially if the landlord is known as a political party leader. This could be called political corruption,” stated Parliament’s First Vice-Speaker Gia Volski.
According to Volski, beyond concealing income tax, this is a serious political issue.
“If this is the case, we, for example, don’t know what German law stipulates, but all rules and norms are violated when an ambassador doesn’t formalise a contract with the landlord. Especially if the landlord is known as a political party leader. Accordingly, this ambassador also supports the landlord’s stance, including quite aggressively. This could be called political corruption.
This situation raises questions about the legal implications, particularly concerning the potential violation related to unpaid income tax. The specifics of how this may be classified under the law will likely be determined by the competent authorities upon further investigation. I’m convinced that no such law exists in Germany that allows such irregularity, that an ambassador rents a house from a political leader, moreover, without a contract. No one knows who pays what and sends reports to Berlin. What does he indicate there, that he pays the political leader in cash? In what light this can be considered is unimaginable to me, but the fact is that political corruption is evident.
Even without a rental agreement in place, an ambassador renting a house from a political leader and then openly sharing that leader’s ideas and positions, especially so aggressively, raises serious concerns. This behaviour clearly points to one thing: political corruption. Moreover, this particular ambassador doesn’t view Georgia as a state where rules should be observed. He doesn’t view it as a state with certain traditions and culture. Whether this insults the host country and society has no significance for him whatsoever,” declared Gia Volski.
