On April 23, 1992, just one month after the establishment of diplomatic relations, the United States opened its embassy in Tbilisi, marking a strong signal of U.S. support for Georgia’s sovereignty and independence, the U.S. Embassy in Georgia said in a statement.

According to the embassy, 34 years later, the United States continues to strengthen and deepen its partnership with Georgia.

“At the time, Acting Ambassador Kerry Kavanaugh described the opening as historic and spoke about plans to reinforce U.S.–Georgia ties, expand cooperation, and support humanitarian efforts.

Today, 34 years later, we are proud to continue strengthening and developing our mutually beneficial partnership with Georgia,” the statement said.
