US Department of State Spokesperson: We continue to support Georgian people’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations, but government takes different path
“We continue to support the Georgian people’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations, but we have seen the Government of Georgia take a different turn and take a different path,” said Matthew Miller, US Department of State Spokesperson at the daily press briefing.
According to Matthew Miller, the Georgian Government’s actions fundamentally altered its relationship with the United States and European countries.
“We’ve seen the Government of Georgia take – pass laws that move Georgia away from its democratic trajectory. As you know, you’ve spoken about the law that they passed and how – the effect that it could have on civil society and the way it could enable government crackdowns on legitimate democratic rights. And so it is the Georgian Government’s actions that have fundamentally altered its relationship with the United States, but not just with the United States, with other – with countries in Europe,” he said.
